Pilot and Index peak

In late October Stephen Berwanger and I made a desperate trip into an area around Cooke City, Mt known as Goose Lakes in search of some alpine ice. Rumors of  sick alpine ice lines had circled there way back to me and since I had been striking out on my last few attempts to find climbable ice of any sort I was glutton for punishment on yet another wild “goose” chase.

Packed and loaded we headed in on snowmobiles. The whole time we were pretty amazed how much snow there was and thought we were gonna be sitting in a valley fat and happy with what we would find.

Getting into Goose Lakes ended up being much harder then what we had planned. We realized we were much better climbers then snowmobilers

Stevo wishing we still had snowmobiles as we headed towards camp.

Looking for climbable lines as we skied in started to look grim. Plenty of snow but no ice

It seemed there was a ton of snow but nothing was melting at all. Temps seemed perfect but the snow was perfect dry powder. We started to see that we should have come to make some turns not throw tools..

Looking hard for some ice !

Some incredibly good looking cliffs that looked promising but were not producing lines yet

One of my favorite camps

We may not have gotten to climb anything but we certainly had a great time exploring and being in the mountains!
